How to go vegan: A few tips!

In this challenge, we’re giving you a vegan taster day (pun absolutely intended) so that you can have a little look at how to go vegan.  In reality, it can take a bit more of a transition period to go vegan fully, and that’s ok.  For today’s challenge, do some research - look at recipes that tickle your fancy and work out where to buy the vegan bits and bobs from!  Tomorrow you’ll have a vegan day and from then on you can plan how best to move forwards…whether that’s cold turkey on the meat (ohhhh yesss also very much intended), gradually moving towards becoming fully vegan, or deciding to go flexi and cut back on animal-based consumption.

There are a couple of approaches you can take for tomorrow - either look at your regular meals and simply substitute the non-vegan parts, this can be a nice easy way to approach how to go vegan; or you can have a look at some ideas for vegan recipes.  The internet is ridden with recipes to show you how to go vegan, so a simple search should sort you right out, but here are a couple to get you going - BBC Good Food and Guide to Vegan.

If you want a bit of extra support, it’s worth joining the Facebook Veganuary Group which is a friendly (well for the most part, this is the internet after all!) bunch of online peeps navigating through how to go vegan and sharing tips!

Depending on where you live, there can be varying volumes of options available to you for becoming vegan.  If options are limited or a bit trickier to come across, we recommend substituting one item at a time until you’re happy with where you’re sourcing all your vegan goodies from and have created the habits surrounding it.  You can still use this approach even if you have the luxury of vegan substitutes all over the shop - there’s no set path for how to go vegan, it’s always important to find the best route for you.

Start to get in the habit of checking ingredients to make sure that products are vegan and cruelty-free - this also includes things like toiletries! Again, don’t fret too much if you forget, it can take a while to create a habit and you don’t want to get overwhelmed.
